Our Story

"I was born in the wagon of a traveling show."

Tucked away in a sketchy little alleyway off of Hawthorne Blvd, Cheese & Crack started humbly as a neighborhood cheese stand on wheels. On weekends, owner William Steuernagel packed up little boxes of cheeses, cured meats, olives, pickles, jams, and handmade crackers. Crackers were baked in a tiny oven aboard the cart and a tacky yellow tarp canopy covered the heads of brave patrons.  

RIP Sue. You were a good cart. We hope San Luis Obispo treats you well.

CHEESE & CRACK SNACK SHOP brings on co-owner Nathan Hall, a curated craft beer & wine list, and an expanded food menu.  

It's a nice little neighborhood spot for a morning cup of ambition, an afternoon treat, or a late night munchie.
